I’ll tell you exactly why:
The slop is uncanny
We’ve all seen the pretty pictures, heard the catchy tunes, and read the engaging headlines. They look, sound, and read very nice. It’s amazing how far AI has come in generating such striking media, but why does it suck?

You feel it too, don’t you? AI art is so good, but so empty. It’s spectacular, but it sucks. AI has shown us what art looks like without a soul, and it’s beautiful garbage. That thing you’re feeling when looking at AI art is similar to that of the uncanny valley. We have an evolutionary sense for this kind of stuff. We feel uneasy when there are imposters in our midst and it’s no different for AI slop art.
The slop makes us stupid
Why take hours to write something if you can have AI write it for you in 5 seconds? Why draw or paint a picture, when AI can do it better and faster than you anyway? Why think?
Overuse of AI is rewriting our brains in a way that makes us less capable of neural, linguistic, and behavioural tasks. And believe me, in this day an age, we desperately need those skills if humanity is going to survive (see next area)!
The slop divides us
The internet is powered by rage, and we are the human batteries. The average Internet user these days is quick to anger and slow to check sources, which in turn feeds the slop machine.
The human body generates more bioelectricity than a 120-volt battery and over 25,000 BTUs of body heat. Combined with a form of fusion, the machines have found all the energy they would ever need.

Social media is chock full of slop and it’s almost all rage-bait. The Dead Internet Theory is looking less and less like a conspiracy as time goes on.
